Naomi Allen, D.Phil., M.Sc., is chief scientist for UK Biobank and professor of epidemiology at the Nuffield Department of Population Health at the University of Oxford. She has been involved in the UK Biobank project since 2011 and is responsible for coordinating the linkage of routine electronic health records into the study for long-term follow-up (including deaths, cancers, primary and secondary care data, and other health-related datasets). Dr. Allen also plays a major role in developing the scientific strategy for the introduction of new enhancements into the resource (e.g., Web-based questionnaires, cohort-wide biomarker assays) and helps develop policies that govern access to the data for public health research by scientists worldwide. Her major research interest is in using large-scale prospective cohort data to examine the role of diet, adiposity, and hormones in cancer risk.
