Winston Koo, M.B.B.S., FAAP, (he/him) is an academic physician who was trained in Australia and the United States. He has also practiced medicine in Canada and has served as a volunteer physician–educator in multiple resource-limited countries. Throughout his academic career, Dr. Koo has been involved in research focused on nutrition, growth, and bone mineralization, primarily in infants and children. Since his retirement from full-time clinical practice, in 2017, he has continued to volunteer in various capacities at the community, national, and international level. These opportunities allowed him to meet and interact with and learn from people of diverse cultures and backgrounds. Dr. Koo is excited about the opportunity to contribute as a Pediatric Champion on both the Steering and Executive committees. By understanding the interaction of genetics, lifestyle, and environment, this program has the potential to make precision medicine a reality—and thus improve the health of all individuals in ways that can transcend race, ethnicity, and national boundaries.
