Part of the All of Us Research Program, centers will sequence 1 million genomes

Today, the Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) awarded $21 million to 46 community health centers to support their participation in the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) All of Us Research Program. All of Us is a national effort to gather data from one million or more U.S. residents to accelerate research and improve health by taking individuals’ differences in lifestyle, environment, biology and other factors into account.

The All of Us Research Program at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is pleased to announce that Kelly Gebo, M.D., M.P.H., has joined as the program’s new Chief Medical and Scientific Officer.

The All of Us Research Program has launched the first phase of the All of Us Research Hub. The site includes an overview of the data and tools that will be part of this biomedical resource, which will enable researchers to explore how lifestyle, environment, and genes contribute to individual health. It also provides detailed information about the program’s recent Research Priorities Workshop and related activities.

In October 2017, the All of Us Research Program Advisory Panel established a working group to provide guidance to All of Us senior leadership on how to develop meaningful, culturally sensitive collaborations with American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) populations. The Tribal Collaboration Working Group (TCWG) has now completed its report, outlining best practices and considerations for collaborating with tribal nations and populations.

The All of Us Research Program has recently issued a funding announcement for Genome Centers to generate genotype and whole genome sequence data from participants’ biosamples. Information produced from the Genome Centers will become a critical component in the program’s precision medicine research platform, a national resource for investigators working on a variety of important health questions.
